Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for a regular arrangement to be set up?
We will endeavour to ensure that arrangements are set up as quickly as possible, however if you are able to give a little notice as to when you would like the arrangement to commence it is helpful.

Will I be able to specify a set day and time?
Domestic Companions appreciates that everybody has commitments, so yes you can specify a day and time. However, the more flexible you can be the quicker your arrangement can be made. Once agreed you can have the same day and time every visit unless you would prefer otherwise.

Do you send the same worker every time?
We will do our utmost to ensure that you have the team member of your choice.

What happens if my regular Domestic Companions cleaner/companion is on holiday or unavailable?
A replacement member of our team will be sent to cover the period of absence.

What happens if my scheduled cleaning service falls on a statutory holiday?
We will contact you to make alternative arrangements

How can I arrange changes, different services or cancellations?
Please call our office or mobile telephone number to include different services into your package, or to arrange changes. Ideally we require seven working days’ notice to rearrange your service. To cancel your service package please email giving one month’s notice of your intention to cancel the agreement.

We ask that you pay a cancellation gratuity whenever you give workers less than 24 hours’ notice that you wish to cancel a planned work session or the worker is unable to gain access to your home through no fault of their own.

How will you safe guard the security of my home if I am absent?
The workers will not allow anybody access to your property while working there unless you have expressly asked them to.

If I allow you to hold keys to my property who will have access to them?
Only the worker allocated to you will have access to yours keys. We recommend that you complete a Key Security Deposit Form (provided in your information pack) which confirms the arrangement for the transfer of keys. We would advise a deposit of £10 for the keys deducted from the first weeks earnings, to be returned as and when the keys are returned.

What happens to my pets during a home clean?
Please let the cleaner/companion know what pets you have and how they should be dealt with when the cleaner/companion calls.

Do I have to do anything before my home is cleaned?
Please make sure the environment is safe and tidy. Should you require your cleaner to work at higher levels a step ladder or other appropriate equipment should be provided. We recommend that 2 people are present if working above head height.

How do I check the cleaner’s work?
We recommend that you initially check the standard of work after each cleaning session, until you feel more confident in the cleaners ability. Please resist the urge to ‘hover’ around the cleaner whilst they are working.

How do I report accidents?
If your cleaner has an accident whilst working in your home which causes damage to your propery or injury to the cleaner or others we ask that you provide relevant details and we will advise you how to proceed. One of the benefits of our service is that we operate public liability insurance (a copy of the policy is available upon request).

How do I pay for the service?
For a regular service payment is made at the time of the service directly to the member of staff. You can pay by them by cheque or cash. The administration charge will be invoiced quarterly, the first quarter one week before your regular service commences. Domestic Companions will accept payment by cash, cheque, standing order or direct debit.

Do you operate a Rewards Scheme?
Yes Domestic Companions will give you £20 in a choice of vouchers for each introduction you make to us leading to new clients taking our services.

Domestic Companions provide a comprehensive Client Information Booklet prior to your service commencing which has been designed to inform you how we operate and to help you get the best out of our service and the workers we introduce to you. We recommend that you take time to read this booklet as it contains lots of valuable information and tips to ensure everything goes smoothly from day one.
